Unstructured Time Is Needed to Process Thoughts and Emotions
The purpose of memory is to prepare for the future. Past thoughts and emotions must therefore be processed. Our brains naturally process emotions in the background while we do rote physical activity. However, especially with social media, we are constantly distracting ourselves and not letting ourselves sit with our emotions and process them. Give yourself unstructured time to think through and process your emotions. We need to get rid of distractions and provide ourselves with more mental idle time and space, to give our minds a chance to think through and explore something, to do the deep emotional work required to get to the root of the issue. Journalling is a powerful tool for processing past thoughts and emotions.
