There's an old saying: "Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child."
—Jonathan Haidt
Everything tends towards entropy by default, and for this reason, it is impossible to be completely protected from evil. Taken too far, attempting to be protected completely from evil leads to another evil. Instead, it is better to voluntarily face evil and become competent and dangerous in the process, than to remain infantile and protected.
Many stories are predicated on dealing with evil directly and becoming competent in the process, rather than remaining infantile. It is better for parents to raise children to be strong and competent, rather than trying to keep them safe and infantile. Delayed gratification is important as there needs to be sacrifice in the current moment to achieve strength and competence.
Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one
