This can be applied to writing, where you want to remove unnecessary words and keep only what is really important. It is better to first write more than your word limit, where you do a brain dump and write down whatever comes to mind, and then cut it down while editing later - the most important button on the keyboard is "delete". Repeat the process. This also helps to Start with small steps to build momentum|build up momentum.
It is easier to recognize bad writing than good writing and to remove it. Keep it simple. Utilize the Rule of Three and Pareto's Principle to choose only what is really important.
